Series: The Hardy Boys Drinkbook Podcast

Special Episode! Drunken Gumshoes Episode One

Detectives, I am thrilled to announce your next adventure. With the Hardy Boys Drinkbook coming to an end, The Drunken Gumshoes will be the podcast of choice for the drunken solving of mysteries made for children. My brother Jack (co-producer and frequent guest of this podcast) and my sister Faye (previous bartending special guest) will be exploring the other books and crannies of the adolescent adventure and mystery genre. If you’ve enjoyed the Hardy Boys inane adventures, I know you will enjoy The Drunken Gumshoes!

Episode Eighteen: The Twisted Claw ft. Brian Kusic pt. 2

Here is part two of Episode 18: The Twisted Claw ft. actor Brian Kusic! Brian suggested one of his favorite haunts as our featured bar this week. I went to Gerard’s Pool Hall in RiNo, in the alleyway between Walnut and Larimer. It’s by Il Posto. Anyway, bartenders Darren Harris and Stephen Claustre made me a delicious drink called “The Railbird.” It’s made with vodka, aperol, fresh grapefruit and lime juice and a basil simple syrup. It’s like a suger-bowl picnic in a glass. The pool hall is a big open space with a mezzanine overlooking six gorgeous tables. Antique photographs and furniture, collected by Gerard himself, decorate the open space. Jazz on Thursdays. It’s a heck of a place. They were re-felting a table the first day I came in, and the noise was a little too much. I stopped by the next day and Stephen was kind enough to re-do the interview. Darren made the drink though, he deserves credit for that.

Thanks to everyone listening. You are the wind beneath my biplane wings as the engine goes out over the Atlantic as we search for the lost pirate city and we’re not going to make it but wait we’re fine. I mean it. Access the Bingo Card at: https://www.mfbc.us/m/gcfcwb

Episode Eighteen: The Twisted Claw ft. Brian Kusic pt. 1

It’s Episode 18 of The Hardy Boys Drinkbook Podcast! It’s “The Mystery of the Twisted Claw!”

I’m so excited to finally have Brian Kusic as a guest on the show. Brian is an actor in Denver and one of my favorite people in the industry. He played multiple characters in an all ages show that wrote for Buntport for All Ages called “Siren Song: A Pirate Odyssey,” but his best character was Toots God of Recorders. When I found out this next book had pirates in it, I knew exactly who to call.

This episode was so good that it went too long for one episode, so I’m splitting it into two parts and putting the drink recipe in part 2.

Keep checking back and thank you all so much for continuing to check in when we have a new episode. I have heard from some of you that the only thing that you don’t like about the podcast is how rarely episodes come out. I hope you know how much that means to Jack and I, and that every listen makes this labor of love worth it.

Episode Seventeen: The Secret Warning ft. Adrian Bishop

It’s episode 17 of The Hardy Boys Drinkbook Podcast!

I am super excited to welcome back Adrian Bishop to the show. Adrian is a producer, director and founding partner of Practice Studios (check out their awesome work at www.practicestudios.tv. They create amazing original content that makes people want to go places and do things.

Adrian also co-wrote, directed and produced At Any Rate (www.atanyrateshow.com) with Jack and I.

For this episode Sam Nordstrom at St. Paul’s Tavern mixed us a classic Old Fashioned. St. Paul’s Tavern is on Colfax and … St. Paul. They opened last Halloween and now they have a sign and everything!

Episode Sixteen: A Figure in Hiding ft. Jack Wefso pt. 2

Hey everybody! Here’s part 2!

My guest for this episode is my brother and co-producer Jack Wefso, an actor of great regard. This is an especially great book in my opinion, because it features something that the books have been sorely lacking: a gang with a gimmick! In this stupid and pointless adventure, we encounter The Goggler Gang. They wear nylon stockings over their faces and then put light-up goggles on over that. So they’re functionally blind.

After staying up talking so late, you’ll need something to both calm you down and keep you going. For this episode I thought an Irish Coffee recipe would be a good fit (and no, there’s no blood in it.)

Irish Coffee

  • Make a small pot of strong black coffee
  • Ad a teaspoon of brown sugar to the bottom of a glass mug
  • Mix 1-2 ounces of room temperature Irish Whiskey with the brown sugar until it has mixed well
  • Pour the black coffee into the mug and stir with a bar spoon.
  • With the bar spoon, ladle a goodly amount of cold whipped cream on top.
  • Try not to drink too many.

Ride in an experimental hydrofoil boat! Get kidnapped to a surf… picnic? And almost murder a man with your car in: Episode Sixteen: A Figure in Hiding ft. Jack Wefso pt. 2!

Next episode Adrian Bishop is coming back! I’m so psyched!

Episode Sixteen: A Figure in Hiding ft. Jack Wefso pt. 1

We’re back! After a slight hiatus, the Hardy Boys Drinkbook has returned with a brand new Wefso Brother’s long-winded two-parter.

Part two will be along shortly and we have a few more episodes planned. Thanks for sticking with us detectives.

Nancy Drew Special Episode Three: The Bungalow Mystery ft. Casey Dallavalle 2/2

This is part 2 of the third Nancy Drew special episode, featuring Casey Dallavalle. If you haven’t listened to part one, check that out first. Or don’t. I’m not the boss of you.

Also, make sure to listen to the end for more of my interview with Joshua Rapp from Avery Brewing Company.

Nancy Drew Special Episode Three: The Bungalow Mystery ft. Casey Dallavalle 1/2

It’s the third Nancy Drew special episode! Today I’m joined by my good friend Casey Dallavalle. She’s a long-time fan of the Nancy Drew point-and-click computer games and she’s prepared to apply her carefully honed skills to this bizarre mystery.

Instead of our normal bar segment, I spoke with Joshua Rapp, who is the Brewhouse Manager for Avery Brewing Company. We drank a delicious seasonal beer called “The Kaiser” and Josh taught us a few tips on how to taste the difference between poorly made and well made brews.

This episode is a long one, so make sure to listen to Part 2 as well for the second half of the book, and more of my interview with Josh.

Episode Fifteen: The Sinister Signpost ft. Jose Zuniga pt. 2

This is part 2 of Episode Fifteen of The Hardy Boys Drinkbook Podcast!

I sat down with actor and dungeon master Jose Zuniga to talk about this convoluted mystery. Jose works at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and hosts an event called The Great Space Escape, which is a planetarium show that mixes astronomical information with stand up comedy. The title also sounds like it could be a Hardy Boys Mystery,

After Jack and I talked with Owen Hickey at Celtic on Market, we met up with bartender Alyosius Schuck to sip a glass of lucky Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey. This delicious stuff was named after an Irish racehorse which won a race in 1878 at 100 to 1 odds!
